Update on Thanael

Well, things have kind of slowed down here so I thought I'd update everyone on what's been happening in the past 2 weeks. (I'm going to leave little details out because frankly this is already going to be really long....)

As most of you know, Nate tore his right Achilles tendon 2 weeks ago today(a Sunday). It was very random and sudden! He was pushing off to run and he said it felt like someone ran into the back of his heel. I mean he actually looked behind him.....and then fell to the ground in pain! So bright and early Monday morning, I'm talking we were at the 1st hospital at 7:30am, we were trying to get in to see a Sports Medicine doctor. The 1st hospital we went to didn't have a walk-in sports medicine clinic so we were off to another. We got into the second place, filled out paper work.....and waited! The doctor we got saw first basically told us, yeah, it was torn. He was very honest and said because he focuses more on knees and shoulders, he wanted Nate to see the doctor who focuses more on feet. So we waited till 11:30 and had another appointment where the doctor said the same thing. However, he gave gave a very detailed outline about the recovery and rehab, which in all honesty is what Nate's more concerned about! They fit him for a "boot" which he has been wearing ever since....well except to sleep in. So the surgery was all lined up for this past Monday however, after talking with his track coach, they decided to talk with 1 more doctor. (this doctor and his physical therapists have dealt with the track team before) Oh, we did go to see one more doctor the next day, but it wasn't a sports medicine clinic and he was really more of just a number he was NOT feeling it there! Well, out of all the visits, Nate did say he liked the 3rd guy the best, which if someones going to be cutting into your foot, I think that's pretty important! So surgery was rescheduled for the past Friday evening.
Basically, he couldn't eat or drink all day and his surgery wasn't scheduled till 6pm!! (Don't worry, he survived!) His parents came Friday and they picked him up for work because he had to be at the hospital at 4pm.  It was an out-patient surgery, but he was put completely under. I decided since they probably wouldn't be home till after 9pm, what with having to go fill all his meds, that I would make chili so dinner would at least be taken care of. He wasn't TOO loopy when he got home, even though I WAS hoping for a little more entertainment, and he really is doing ok. Last night he said right before bed he almost had to take "some of the good stuff" for the pain, but fought through. During the day he has a "watercast" on, where the cold water has to be changed every 20 minutes, kind of like icing, to keep swelling down, and he wears the boot on top of that. That 20 minute alarm comes pretty fast each time!! At night he's just in the boot. He's already started with some movement. Legs raises, toe wiggles, etc. every hour. The real physical therapy starts Tuesday I do believe.....after a doctor visit. Stitches come out December 2nd. He should be driving again before Christmas.
So all in all, he's doing alright. Recovery wise he will be out of track this season. It will take about 9-12 months before he'll be able to run on it again. We'll be focusing on the little goals for a while.
Thanks for everyone's support!! We're so blessed to have family and friends who care as much as you guys do! Anyway, if you're looking for me in the next couple days, I'll be at Nate's......changing the cold water every 20 minutes!!! :)

Very much looking forward to coming home for Thanksgiving!!!!! :) :) :)

Proper Elevator Etiquette

Sooooooo........on top of the ever annoying "blocking the intersection" pet peeve of mine, I also am becoming more and more irked with people's lack of courtesy in terms of elevators! It often reminds me of when I was coaching at Auburn and the girls would always load the bus for away games from the front to the back. SERIOUSLY?!?!? So it's like this: If someone (me) is on an elevator and the doors open, let someone (me) get off before you try to get on!!!! In a place of so called professional adults, you'd think this would even be an issue. But no...it is....everyday! Just a few ideas as to how we could fix this:
1. Take your eyes off your Blackberry to see if in fact someone is on the elevator.
2. Don't stand with your nose practically touching the door waiting on said elevator.
3. Put in to practice the 3 second rule....don't even start the forward motion until you can count to 3!
4.  Pick a side....if you going to stand right in front of the doors, there's going to be a long stand off....I'm not gettin off and you sure as hell ain't gettin on!

I would like to give everyone I meet the benefit of the doubt and think some where along the way their mom taught them the meaning of "common courtesy", but to tell you the truth, I'm starting to doubt that. And it seriously surprises me that every time those elevator doors open and I'm standing there, that it's a HUGE surprise to the inconsiderate child standing on the other side....like it's Halloween and I'm the monster in the Haunted House! People, I'm not hiding...I'm standing smack down in the middle of the elevator where you can't help but see me! I mean in a place of business the size of Eli Lilly (I'm talking thousands!) the odds are really against the person waiting on the elevator that there IS NOT going to be someone getting off! After 6 months of working there too you might think I would get use to running into people when I have the "right away", but obviously I'm not. In the grand scheme of things, I know this all comes back to America getting lazier and lazier! Please, next time you use an elevator, think about my tips for proper elevator etiquette!!!!!

Very Pleased!

For anyway who I haven't already forced to look at these.....here's the entire album of Nate and I's Engagement session:

We'll try to figure out which ones to order after we've talked to family over Thanksgiving!!! :) :) :)

Happy Birthday, Grandpa!

Today is my Grandpa McCulley's birthday. For the past 3 years Maris and I would always take something over to my Grandma's, just to let her know we're always thinking about Grandpa. And this year, even though I'm 3 hours away, is no different! Happy Birthday, Grandpa! Heaven doesn't know how lucky it is!!!! :) :) :)

Recap

I've been told I haven't been updating this enough.....(Jessica).....so while I'm sitting here at Nate's with Internet I thought I'd update you guys about my week. (I'm warning you all, this may be boring!)

What has happened......well it's a new month! Happy November! With this new month brings 4 family birthdays and the single biggest food day of the year, Turkey Day!! Can't wait to see the fam....I kind of wish there was another big holiday during the year. Thanksgiving and Christmas are just too close together and then nothing the rest of the year. Everyone should start having big family dinners just because! I also have mixed feelings about Christmas "break". So, we get 2 weeks off at Lilly. Well, actually Lilly gives everyone 1 week off, but I guess no one really works the week before Christmas either, which means if no Lilly people are there to work, there's no work for me! So we're forced to take 2 weeks off.....with no pay! Another lady I work with was there last year when they complained about it but I guess it got them nowhere. But, since I don't get any sick days or vacation days either, this 2 week break is going to be very nice.......well, I guess you can understand my mixed feelings!! Moral of the story: Everyone's getting pictures of Quincey for Christmas!!!!!!!!! ;)

Nate and I were pretty lazy this weekend, mainly to save money. Slept in Saturday morning, football during the day, I did talk him into going to the mall to get part of Maris's birthday gift, and then back for more football and video games. Today he was like "Yesterday was great, wasn't it!?!" *sigh* Yeah, for the 1 hour you peeled your eyes away from the TV! ha ha ha (Trust me....I DO know what I'm getting myself in to!) Got to sleep in a little bit this morning too thanks to Mr. Daylight Savings!  Nate's Flag Football team was in the Championship game today at 1:00, so Quincey and I got semi-bundled up and headed out the cheer him on. My man definitely got MVP for the 1st half! (2 touchdowns and an interception).......and then during the very last play of the game, of course, he gets hurt! He'll be fine but it's his ankle/Achilles, tomorrow he's heading to the doctor, obviously, since he needs his foot to RUN!!! So we're here icing, resting, icing, resting.......you know the drill. (And they lost by 5 points!)

At this point I'd like to say that I hate stupid drivers!!! It seems like Indy's just full of them. Every other day there's an accident on my way to work, on my way home.....and on top top of that, what I hate more than anything and what I think should be made illegal is people blocking intersections!!!!!!! It's my all time biggest pet peeve!!!!!!!!! Like the other day......I was sitting at a stop light downtown trying to turn left......not 1 but 2 cars just sitting right in front of me. I was on the phone with Nate and was pissed! I would look up at the light and then look back at the stupid woman. At one point she actually shrugged her shoulders at me like it wasn't her fault!!! I about lost it. It IS your fault. I'm halfway tempted to look up the rules of the road anyway just to see what they say about blocking intersections. I know at some places they have signs that say "DO NOT BLOCK INTERSECTION". I feel like the intersection is like no man's land, so if you're there I have to right to ram your car if I have the green light!! From now on, I think I'll just get as close as possible to any car in my way!!! "I'm sorry officer, but I had a green light!"

Quincey wanted me to say "Hello" to everyone....and now he wants to go out......again!

More Pictures!

What a great way to start this cold Tuesday......Engagement blog is up!!!!

   http://blog.ex-ps.com/e%e2%80%a2sessions/e-blythe-nathan/

And my friends, this isn't even all of them yet!! I don't know if they will have a link to ALL of them (I don't think so), but I'll get them to you as soon as we get a hold of them!!!

Halloween was a bust this year! I have yet to experience a really good Trick-or-Treater year. We dressed up last minute Saturday and went out with Shane and Jacqueline to a house party of one of their friends.

Shane and Jacqueline were the 2 pitchers from the Giants. I don't really know what Nate and I were.....I already had my wig from a couple years ago and I ended up at Walmart to buy Nate's fro and the T-shirts. I guess he was Kool-Aid man. I just wanted to wear a wig!!! We're thinking about wearing them out for fun one night......well I am!

Haven't decided if I'm coming home next weekend for Maris's birthday or not. She has infomed me she might not be home anyway. So, if not then....I WILL be home for Thanksgiving to stuff my face with turkey!! Hopefully have the rest of the Engagement pictures by then!!
